The BackBone Blues Band have been treading the musical boards for over 40 years playing their very own brand of soul and blues. Currently the band ranges from a 6 to a 9 piece line up. The BackBone features Raymie McEvoy on lead vocals & harmonica, Stevie Clarke on saxophones, Rory Dornan on keys and organs, Gary Price on guitars and vocals, Karl Hughes on percussion and drums and Richie McEvoy on bass and vocals. The core musicians are regularly complemented by Eilish McCaffrey on vocals, Gareth Hughes on guitar, Will McLean trombone and Jarlath Mulholland on saxophones and Gerry Morgan [James Bay Band]. Band members have sessioned with a range of gigging professionals including: Gary Nicolson [Delbert McClinton band], Shawn Jones [USA], Shanna Morrison [Van’s daughter], Kickin’ Mule, Spirit of Horslips, Hot House Flowers, Ben Reel Band to name a few.
The Backbone Blues Band, featured live on BBC Radio Ulster’s Ralph McLean show in May 2019, were accredited as “stalwarts of the blues” and a firm favourite of the presenter Ralph McLean. In addition to their regular gigging the BackBone are hosted at many local blues festivals and have gained a loyal and core following within The Warrenpoint International Blues Festival, The Seven Hills Blues Festival and the Belfast Blues festival to name but a few.
The band adopts an eclectic approach to their soul and blues set and carry influences from Van Morrison to Jimmy Vaughan.
